Abstract: This paper will talk about
the change that has taken place in the higher education system and how it has
affected the value of education that students are receiving and also how the
student themselves are affected. The education system is completely different
than it was a few decades ago and I will argue that this transformation to a
highly privatized system has made higher education less valuable. Student loan
companies and universities have profit at their list of top priorities and the
needs of students are neglected in this new system. The education system has
went from making society a better place by having more educated people in it to
a profit driven business. Corruption, unethical behavior, Sallie Mae’s rise to
power, and loan borrower stories will all be discussed to make my argument.
